How We Approach Rankings

Law firm rankings serve a specific purpose for prospective clients: they provide an independent assessment, conducted by researchers who interview clients and counterparties, of whether a firm does the work it claims to do at the standard it claims to do it. We take that purpose seriously. We submit to every Russian legal directory that conducts independent research, and we do not submit to directories that sell rankings or placements.

We are a Russian-qualified firm practising from Novosibirsk. Our recognition is from Russian legal directories, Russian business press, and independent international bodies that assess firms for the quality of their Russian-law practice. We do not hold rankings from Chambers Global, Legal 500, or IFLR1000. We state this plainly because the absence of an international directory ranking is a relevant fact for any overseas client evaluating Russian counsel — and because we believe that a firm which omits its limitations from a recognition page is a firm that has something to hide.

Pravo-300 is the leading independent annual survey of the Russian legal market, published by the Pravo.ru legal media group. The ranking methodology involves analysis of financial metrics, case outcomes, client references and peer assessment. Vetrov & Partners has been recognised across multiple editions in the following categories:

Pravo-300 is widely used by in-house counsel and international law firms as a reference for Russian legal market research. It is the closest Russian equivalent to Chambers and Legal 500 in terms of research methodology and market coverage.

Independent International Recognition

German Consulate General in Russia — Trusted Legal Advisers *(Vertrauensanwälte)

The German Consulate General in Russia maintains a register of trusted legal advisers — law firms recommended to German-speaking clients, German businesses and German government institutions requiring legal assistance in Russia. Inclusion in the register is at the Consulate's discretion and is based on the Consulate's independent assessment of the firm's suitability for foreign clients.

Vetrov & Partners is included in this register. The Consulate recommends the firm for German-speaking clients and German businesses with Russian legal matters.

This endorsement is significant for overseas clients generally — not only those with German connections — because it reflects an independent diplomatic institution's assessment that the firm is suitable for foreign clients who require Russian counsel operating to international communication and service standards.

A Note on International Directory Rankings

We are not ranked by Chambers Global, Legal 500, or IFLR1000.

These directories principally cover Moscow-headquartered firms and the largest international law firms with Russian desks. A Novosibirsk-based boutique firm of fifteen specialists is not the profile that these directories typically assess — although the quality threshold, we believe, would be met.

We intend to submit to Chambers Global and Legal 500 EMEA as the firm's international client portfolio develops. Until a ranking is confirmed, we will not reference these directories on this website except to confirm that we are not currently listed.

For matters where a client or referral partner requires counsel ranked in an international directory, we work alongside firms that hold that recognition. Our role in such mandates is to provide the Russian procedural and substantive expertise; the international directory ranking is provided by the referring firm.
